Crippling anxiety and guilt 2 weeks in
It’s been 2 weeks since I quit alcohol and I thought I’d feel better than I do right now. My mind feels clearer and the ‘no hangovers’ is great but…
I have started getting crippling anxiety, strong feelings of guilt and regret about the past- all the arguments, all the hurt I caused, all the stupid things I said to people. I can’t stop this constant ruminating and worry about everything. I don’t know if I’m being rational or irrational ie I don’t know if I should genuinely be worrying like this so much or if it’s my brain adjusting? It feels awful.
The past is the past and can’t be changed but is this normal to have all this anxiety and guilt?! Going back to drinking just now would be the easy way to block these feelings and thoughts out but I don’t want go down that road. How can I get through this?! Has anyone experienced similar after stopping drinking? Did this anxiety stop or does it just go on like this? Does it get better?
Thanks for any info/experience/advice. These feelings are really difficult to deal with just now.
