Can we please not baby our idols?
Just now, BigHit and Suga of BTS posted on Weverse that Suga was drunk riding his scooter back to his house, and after stumbling, was caught by the police and had his license revoked/was fined. Thankfully, nobody was hurt. He posted a letter explaining the situation and apologizing.
Obviously, drunk driving/riding (no matter the vehicle) is incredibly dangerous. You can't see where you're going properly, and you could hit a passerby or get hurt yourself. As you'd learn in physics, the force from even a smaller object could still hurt someone quite severely. Yet on Twitter, nearly every last ARMY I see is coddling a grown 31-year-old man, trending "WE LOVE YOU YOONGI" (25.5k tweets as of right now!!) as if he was going through a hard time or was the victim. An auto-translation going around makes it sound like he was drinking in his apartment, rather than outside like official translations say. Every last tweet about it is filled with ARMYs minimizing the issue, degrading Korea's traffic laws, and/or saying "it's ok baby we still love you". That's just not healthy or normal at all. He is not the victim here.
No, in this situation, Yoongi did do something wrong. That's okay to accept as a fan. It's something you Must accept as a fan - idols, like humans, are not perfect, and make bad decisions. That doesn't mean they're monsters who should be shunned or scorned - they're just humans who deserve consequences for this actions. And that's what Yoongi rightfully got, and you can't criticize the government for simply enacting its safety precautions. That is a truth that can't be denied. You can't run away from that.
And I know outside fandoms will criticize him enough to overcompensate - that is another issue, people jumping on this as an excuse to attack him. But you, as a fan, need to allow your favorite to take ownership of his mistakes and learn from them, rather than coddling them like some boy mom.
