Quick driving impressions - EX30

The EX30s have started to show up here in Canada and I managed to do a quick test drive with the single motor Plus trim. Coming from a 2023 V60 Recharge (PE), here are some quick thoughts (on mostly driving):

  • There is plenty of power on tap even with the single motor, but it comes on really slow off the line. I didn’t try turning off the ESC though.
  • The infotainment system was much quicker than the AAOS implementation in my V60, and it felt pretty intuitive to use. However, no swipe gesture support to switch between pages/tabs. Climate control has one page for temperature and then another for fan control 🤷‍♂️
  • As I was using the centre screen, I was told several times by the driving alert system to pay attention to the road. The irony. Luckily it can be disabled but I believe it turns back on with every new drive.
  • Steering wheel is very thin, and the square shape doesn’t really lend itself well to causal one handed driving (old habit from 15 years of driving stick).
  • One pedal driving was notably different from my V60. At slow speeds, it feels like the power wasn’t consistent and I would find myself slowing down unexpectedly. I find the V60 much more refined in that regard. Hopefully a software update will address that.
  • No independent Creep toggle. So you get one-pedal with creep OFF or standard D driving with creep ON. I personally like driving in D with creep off.
  • Can’t really comment on the handling as I didn’t have an opportunity to push it, but overall it was a very comfortable ride.

Obviously tons of reviews on the web already but I just wanted to provide my perspective as a V60 Recharge owner. Here in Canada, they are also way too expensive unfortunately. The Ultra is awfully close to the price of my Polestar Engineered 🙃
