Crossroads Advice
Hello Everyone,
I am reaching out for advice and help. For years now, it has been my dream and passion to go back to school, finish my degree, and become a history teacher. I'm young (31), and was able to return to community college last year to really begin getting my degree in history so I can make that goal (I had planned to transfer to university after completing my AA, and in my state they have a "alternative pathways to certification" program that you can get the degree on the subject and then get the teaching cert while working in the schools and teaching--this pathway was actually advised to me by a few neighbors and professors I know) Some major financial issues happened this year causing me to have to abstain from attending this year and unfortunately it will delay me a bit more but not indefinitely. But...I'm starting to wonder if maybe it'd be the unethical thing to do is become a teacher anymore? I always accepted that I wouldn't be getting rich off of a teacher salary, and I made sure that my spouse understood that while we were dating (he's an award winning pastry chef, so I'm banking on him to get famous for us), but with the way cost of livings are skyrocketing and the way the political climate is these days--especially as I'd be a gay male teacher in a red state that's home to a major religious group... I'm worried that I'm making the wrong decision and should go a different way? Maybe find a profession where I might not be as passionate about the work or subject, but maybe something...?
I'm hoping for reasons to keep going and become a history teacher.
