So frustrating!
Just wanted to vent a bit. I'm turning 41 this week, in perimenopause for a couple of years. Now heading towards surgical menopause after a hysterectomy in May. July 5 I started a new way of eating on the advice of my surgeon/gynecologist. No ultraprocessed foods. No dairy because I'm allergic. So I cut out all the fake cheese I was eating, and replaced with avocado.
I got the whole household on board, we cleaned out the entire kitchen. The only time I'm eating ultraprocessed food now is when we eat out, which is about once a week. And even then I'm making a lot better choices than I used to (like in the past few weeks I've had sauce/cheese free street tacos, tuna sandwich, sushi).
I'm 5'6" and 310 pounds. For the almost two months I've been on this diet, I've lost nothing. I've been exercising as much as I can - a full weight training routine at physical therapy twice a week. Plus walking in between. I've casually tracked my intake, mostly with a food journal because I'm making all my food from scratch which will be a PITA to track in apps.
My dietician says I have issues with consistency. So I've been really trying to stick with this diet and see if it eventually pays off. My surgeon/gynecologist says that you should not calorie restrict during the menopause transition, because it just increases inflammation and makes you lose muscle and bone at a higher rate than you already are. From some of the quick math I've done, I'm eating around 2K calories a day. Sometimes a little more, sometimes less. I generally eat twice a day.
It's just so frustrating to do all the right things and be stuck. I keep feeling thinner, but the measurements and weight are the same. It's really confusing and makes me think something is wrong.
On one hand I'm really proud of myself for sticking with it, and I feel like I can sustainably eat like this for the rest of my life. But on the other hand, I want to start planning for what to do next if this doesn't work. I suspect that the new way of eating has sort of primed me for weight loss, and now I need to make one more big change to kick it off.
