So, I was in my church last Sunday. Just sitting in the back (giggling quietly) with a friend before the service. An older woman we know well and have a good relationship with approached us to ask us something, said hello, how are we doing etc.

I was wearing a super basic plain black bucket hat that day to a) protect my deathly pale face from the sun; b) remedy bad hair day; and c) make it easier on my eyes as the lights in my church are pretty bright and there was a lot of people, so the hat covered my eyes and helped me feel relaxed.

I never used to wear hats before other that in winter for warmth, because I have a large head and most hats are too small to fit comfortably and would drive me mad. I only found this comfy bucket hat this summer and it makes me feel so good and comfortable because it shields me from bright lights and people and makes going out places so much easier when I’m overwhelmed!

That lady then proceeded to scold me on wearing a hat in church and yanked at my hat to remove it from my head. I grabbed it at the brims over my ears and held it on my head against her attempt, trying not to shout at her, I replied that I’m a girl and women actually can wear hats in church, which was also the norm in the olden days. She said that I cannot wear a hat LIKE THAT, NO. I resisted anyway and remained in my hat. Funny thing is, she was actually wearing head covering herself, which my friend pointed out, to which she replied that it was different and walked away.

I promise there was nothing offensive about the hat, it was literally just as one in the picture.

I don’t understand why people think it’s okay to just try to rip a piece of clothing off someone else like that? Is it an NT thing? Granted, it’s only a hat and not something on the body, but I felt kinda so violated anyway…

Why do people think it’s okay to tamper with someone else’s clothes?
