[Suggestion] Mid-air repair kits for ESF, using up flare slot

Right now it seems like the biggest thing against aircraft isn't necessarily lock-ons, it's flak.

The thing about flak currently, is that it either doesn't do enough damage to scare off aircraft, and only draws their attention to you personally, or it does so much that it reduces your craft's HP down to nearly nothing assuming you book it out of there.

Right now the only thing you can do against this is run off way out of the battlefield and manually repair up, before coming back and trying to get one run in before blowing up.

What if there was one item that allowed you to counter some of the flak damage but without giving you blanket resistance to it? Like the regen tubes for infantry, but this one would only work after avoiding damage for 5 seconds?

Pilots would still easily be blown out of the sky and learn to fear AA, but at the same time, good pilots that can duck behind cover for a bit can still make their way around the battlefield without having to completely leave it altogether or having to find a flat spot to land on which might be impossible in the area they are currently flying in?

As it sits, it wouldn't make you invincible. Any area with good AA coverage will still push you back or become outright no-fly zones, but in those areas with only a few AA guns it might give you enough breathing room to get shot, get an idea of where they are, take cover somewhere nearby, and try your hand at taking it out?

As long as we set up the conditions right, this wouldn't be an item you could really use in a dogfight to make it too OP, especially if it didn't heal you the entire way up.

The whole purpose of this is to make it so that running into one or two AA units isn't a big deal unless you're an idiot.

We already have passive healing, but this is more of a quick fix that is available before you are on fire.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Insight? If you don't like this idea please let me know, and let me know if there is anything we can add to this to make it work if it doesn't.

TLDR;

A regen pack for pilots to heal them up quickly if they avoid damage for a few seconds, so it takes more than one or two AA units to cover an entire area of sky.

EDIT: Perhaps a drainable flak-specific shield that has a slow cooldown and long-recharge time? This makes it so that the life of the ESF doesn't end up unintentionally expanded upon, and can only be used in flak-specific times, and ONLY during the initial flak-volleys of attacks because of a long timer and recharge. Afterwards they are fully vulnerable as per normal.

This would only make it so that one or two AA MAXes don't have too much power against ESFs. As it sits it's too tough for ESFs to approach the battlefield without being wiped out by enemies they can't see before they reach less than half health.

For the record, I try and main AA MAXes in big fights and I would hope that something like this would help our pilots.

It's already possible to repair in mid-air if you're skilled enough:

This is the coolest thing I've ever seen. * Runs to the VR *

You're talking about nano-repair, right? Because I nano-repair to do exactly what you describe; very often I take flak damage, fly away to friendly territory, tool around for a bit (maybe get some ammo) and soon enough I'm ready for another run. I only repair manually to stave off fires or if the damage is severe and I feel like some certs.

But maybe you find nano-repair too slow?

I don't like how it could be used in situations other than dealing with Flak. I think an active flak resistance module could work, but not as long as they have access to both that and rocket pods.

Yeah well, resistance to flak only plays along the same variables we've already played on for a long time now, with back and forth nerfing and buffing.

This is more about just undoing some of the initial damage when you arrive to the field as a way of helping you out for the initial encounters.

Buffing resistance only nerfs AA, and that isn't really enough to fix the problem anymore. Mostly, we just need a way to make it so that one flak doesn't mean instant death without lowering the damage they do, since that hasn't worked in the past.

This would be more about lowering the effective damage of the first volley of flak, and leaving the pilot open to more attacks afterwards with a long cooldown for the healing.

EDIT: Yeah this would need some serious adjustment to prevent non-flak occasions to prevent overpowering the ESF. Maybe it could be some kind of drainable shield that is triggered by flak explosions only? Long cooldown and slow regen. Does that work? Then it is flak-specific only. Dogfighters still rule the day, as does Gal-rams, and lib-teams. Also AA missles.

It's not the same. Why did adjusting flak values not work before? Because Rocket Pods. Durable + Fast + Rocket Pods = ESF Hate

The less interaction durable ESFs have with Infantry, the more durable they are allowed to be. This is also I reason I don't think that mid air repair packs would ever come to be.

Regarding nerfing AA; if the targets that equip this module are less of a threat to infantry, they do not need to be dealt with. AA is still as effective on everything else in the game; the only aircraft that get "buffed" are the ones that only fly with nose guns.
