Koishi's Spiriting Away - Day 1?
It takes a moment for you to call to mind a memory, however recent it may be. What did you have for breakfast this morning? Did you take your medication? Save the world? Where are your friends, your family, your lover? The uncertainty coats your brain in a dense fog, intent on keeping you submerged in this sea of possibility, a bottomless depths where the pieces of You continue to float away in all directions. . .
The solemn toll of a clocktower dispels the fog in an instant, cutting through pasts and futures that were never meant to be.
Your eyes open: the blue sky opens above you, cloudless and vast. The ground feels soft beneath your head, blades of grass tickling the side of your face with the gentle breeze. There's a faint smell of pollen in the air, and birds act as the messengers of spring with their carefree song. Even the most avid dreamers would struggle to conjure a more beautiful day. In Gensokyo, days like these were ripe for producing incidents of unheard-of proportions.
As nice as the scenery and sensation on your skin is, none of this answers any of the questions about where you are, or-
Wait a moment. This was familiar, wasn't it? The sensation of cloudy, far-off memories and a dreamlike sense of mystery contrasts with the unmistakable feeling of deja-vu. You've been here before; in a sense, you've always been here. Focusing at this point isn't hard. The first game was simple: a player received information they shouldn't have. No matter, the game could continue, right? But then another memory contradicts that one - the wrong player died in the night. Then no players died when there should have been three deaths. A sober player received incorrect information. A ghost vote was counted twice. In one history, the players simply refused to play.
And every time, the game ended abruptly, and you awoke to the image of a little girl with green hair stomping her feet in the air.
No... No no no! It's all wrong!
Her voice distorts and warbles in the crisp morning air, cutting through all pretense like a hot knife.
This game has too many rules! How the heck is anyone supposed to have fun when there's so much stuff to remember!?
And I don't care if you guys want to just keep going! It has to be perfect! A perfect game that everyone will remember!
This time, I won't be making any mistakes. So make sure you all enjoy yourselves to the fullest, mkay~? Heehee~
While the youkai obsessed over the details of games you've played and never experienced, a handful of butterflies make their way into the field, alighting upon the flowers nearest to the 13 players, and vanishing into dust as soon as they make contact. While their presence was ephemeral, its dismissal projects a voice directly into your minds:
Hello everyone, do not be alarmed. I'm glad we were finally able to get through to you.
I'm terribly sorry, but I'll have to ask you to keep entertaining Koishi for a while longer. This presence is... very unfamiliar to us. But we will be there to help soon, I promise.
The voice is gone. All you have left now is each other, and a game of Blood on the Clocktower to play. For the first second third final time, you are given characters and starting information, and commanded to enjoy yourselves and your time in Gensokyo.
This is Day One! There will be 48 hours from the time of this post for whispers and general discussion, and a further 24 or so hours for nominations and voting! Good luck!
