Contracting Officer Training Specialist role at the Dept of Treasury. Is this role overloaded?
I was recently contacted for an interview for a Contracting Officer Training Specialist position (GS-12) with Treasury’s Bureau of the Fiscal Service. I’m eager to move on from my current role, so I’ve been applying to various 1102 positions, but this is one of the few to respond.
After reviewing the job announcement, it seems like this role involves not only creating and delivering training materials and evaluating staff but also performing duties as a warranted contracting officer and handling COR tasks as assigned. This seems like a heavy load for a GS-12, especially balancing training responsibilities with CO and COR duties.
I’m planning to interview to get more clarity, but I’m feeling hesitant. This seems like an excessive workload for a GS-12, which makes me think this agency may not be as generous with their grades as others. For instance, at other agencies, you can find standard 1102 roles at the GS-13 level with far fewer responsibilities.
If anyone has experience with Treasury or similar roles, do you think this position would be a good fit? Or would I be better off staying in my current role until I find a different 1102 opportunity? I’d also love to know more about Treasury’s work culture, how they handle remote employees, and if they’re likely to revoke remote options in the future.
Thanks for any insights or advice!
