Husband, previous democrat, voted trump and now ruining our relationship

My husband and I have been together for 15 years and have two young children under the age of 3. We've never discussed politics much but always have been on the same page with things for the most part, I've always just been more progressive than he is. A few months before the election I said something about being afraid of trump wins and he disclosed he's going to vote for trump. It came out of nowhere! At first he said he didn't want to but had some serious grievances with democrats, but now all of a sudden he's defending everything he says and does!

I keep trying to talk to him about things and he instantly gets angry, defensive, and shut down. I think I'd be ok being married to someone with different views, but we at least have to be able to talk about things and he is not able to.

I don't know if im over reacting but I'm really scared for the long term of our relationship. Hopefully things get better over time but there is a part of me starting to think how my life would look without him as my partner.

I just don't know what to do!
