From Felicity to Star Trek, I have found nothing this guy has done other than run of the mill at best. I have great hopes but great fears for the future of Star Wars with him involved.

AU contraire, Abrams ends up being an extremely competent filmmaker, whose attention to detail and directorial style shows a much deeper affinity for his subject matter than the likes of Emerich or Bay. While he does seem to be churning through cultural mainstays, he's not Wes Anderson or Terrence Mallick. He's a competent director, not an auteur. If you can't appreciate him for the niche he fills, you're just crotchety.

Kinda agree. Lost was incredibly overrated and still has one of the worst endings to a once great series that i've ever seen. Fringe is pretty freaking good though imo.
