Cost of repair -

Unfortunately our heat pump is not blowing heat. Only cold air. The unit was only in use for 16 months before this happened.

The company that installed it has diagnosed it with either being a failure with the solenoid valve. Or the reversing valve. They state they can’t determine which one it is until they replace the solenoid valve - which is the cheaper option. That in and of itself seems fishy to me, but I’m not a heat pump repair person.

So the cost break down is $489 (1hr) in labor for the solenoid valve. And $2199 (5-6hrs) in labor for the reversing valve replacement. The parts are covered under warranty.

But something just does not feel right about this quote. We are in SW Ontario. And $489/hour in labor seems extremely high.

Anyone have any insight into if this is a reasonable fee for the repair??

The company also sent an estimate for a 10 year warranty on labor for $2500. Which seems fishy af since they waited until they had the parts in hand to send me the quote for the warranty. But I digress.
