Should I hire a lawyer or can I do this myself?

Hi Everyone, I feel like I have almost everything I need to apply for my student visa, but the current political climate and other people have made me feel very anxiousv and like I would be absolutely crazy to apply without a lawyer.

My Situation:

I am a U.S. citizen applying for a one-year student visa at the Spanish Consulate in NYC on March 25th.

My course is for a professional dance program that starts in May 2025 and requires 25 hours of training per week.

Documents I Already Have:

✅ Visa application form (completed via BLS website) ✅ Valid passport & passport photos ✅ 12,000 USD in savings (3-month bank statement, not translated) ✅ FBI Background Check – Apostille is in process, and I have contacted my Congressman to expedite it for the sworn Spanish translation ✅ Driver’s License (as additional ID for consulate appointment) ✅ School Enrollment Letter in Spanish 5.31.25 to 6.1.26 ✅ 3-month Airbnb accommodation booking in Spanish ✅ Doctor’s appointment scheduled next week to complete the medical certificate ✅ Planning to purchase the medical insurance closer to my appointment

Does my application seem strong enough based on my documents and do you think I have enough time to do all of this from America before my flight on May 2nd? Am I freaking out for no reason?

I was told it was always easier to apply from Spain, but the new law changes go into effect May 20th and I arrive May 2nd so I thought it would be safer to apply from the consulate in NYC here before I leave, but I don't know.

What do you guys think?
