Custom Booster Draft Ideas
So I have a small play group, currently just my wife and a friend of ours. I've been playing Arena for years and invested in the Duskmourn and Bloomburrow commander precons so the three of us could play together. Neither of them had any exposure to Magic, but i've been teaching them and we've been playing roughly once per week. They've been pretty into it, learning the rules and interpreting the cards. So, i've been thinking that doing a custom draft game one night might be a fun idea to switch things up and give everyone an opportunity to start collecting their own stuff, as we have an LGS up the road to play at and they have a good variety of sets to pull from.
I've been looking into the rule sets for booster drafts, and i'm just wondering what might be the best way to go about it, like how many packs would be needed, whether we should do 40 or 60 card decks, and whether sticking to a three player free for all would still be relatively balanced, as that has been working fine for our commander nights. I never do draft matches on Arena, so my own experience with the format is limited. Any advice or ideas here would be helpful.
