MC1 unintentionally ruins MC2s inner light/spark/happiness

I appreciate this might be a bit narrow but I’m hopeful there might be some books out there that fit this request.

I’d like for MC1 to unintentionally (that’s key) squash MC2s inner joy/spark/light. I’m thinking that MC1 acts in a way that he thinks is protecting MC2 but whilst MC2 may be physically safe, the behaviour of MC1 makes him miserable and unhappy.

The best example I have of this is {Justice by Lark Taylor} I love this book for many reasons - it pretty much made me cry for the last 3rd of the book. Sebastian basically leaves Matty as he doesn’t want to ‘infect’ him with his darkness and ruin Matty’s happiness. He’s doing this to protect Marty. However Sebastian leaving causes Matty to fall into a deep depression and his zest for life (and everything that made Sebastian love him) just disappears. Sebastian is horrified when he finds out.

There’s also a short scene in {Mad Love by April Jade} where Toby gets kidnapped and after being rescued Ben hides him away in his condo - stopping him from going to work/seeing friends as he’s terrified of him getting kidnapped again.

I’m fine with any genre but sports romances are not really my thing. Hard no = mpreg and dubcon/noncon. Please let me know of any CW such as SA/DV etc. if possible.

I’d rather we didn’t have MC1 do a quick ‘I’m sorry’ and it’s glossed over. I’d like communication between them and real shock by MC1 that they’ve hurt MC2 unintentionally. Plus action taken to fix the hurt they’ve caused.
