Bittersweet first time Coin Roll Hunting.

Seems like sometimes you guys have some luck and get some free silver. I thought I'd give it a go today and got $185 in dimes from my bank. As I'm going through them I noticed that some of the 'solid rolls', where both ends have the factory sealed hole opening, had already been opened. One end had the standard hole opening and the other was clearly opened and then folded back. I counted some of the dimes from these rolls and they were all $4.80 or $4.90, and a few of them had some pennies shoved in there.

Had I not found two silver dimes i would have been quite livid. I just counted them and I have $181.60. So basically, I almost broke even. A friend at work today joked that I literally got 'nickel and dimed by some asshole'. Not too happy, but lesson learned. I'll be stopping by the bank tomorrow to talk to someone about what happened, though I doubt I'll receive any compensation.

Is this something that happens often? I really want to keep hunting but this has left a bad taste in my mouth. It tastes like pennies >.<

UPDATE: Went back and explained what happened and they reimbursed me the $3.40. I then wheeled across town to the TD with a penny arcade and used that cash plus extra change to get $200 more in dimes. I found two more! So far that's 4 rosies in $385 of dimes. Not Bad.

Those aren't bank sealed/guaranteed rolls, those are customer wrapped rolls that people deposit or exchange for cash.

This has happened to me as well. Wait until you get quarter rolls and find a nickel or two shoved in there.

My mindset is that I'm going to stick with dimes and halves, since it's easier to miss spotting a dime and halves are used quite infrequently. We'll see though.

if you are going to spend 185 bucks on money, spend a bit more and buy a 10 oz bar or failing that, as many 1 oz actual silver coins you can get

He's not spending $185 bucks, he'll return the non-silver coins to the bank later.

Like 123felix said I just return the non-silver coins and either get my money back, or more coins to search through. In an ideal scenario the bank gives me free silver. I ordered a few ounces from Silvertowne last night as well :)
