Let's finally buff the 93R to a healthy state!

Discussion

I've made a post on this very topic before (~7 months ago): since then, I've observed the buff that put the 93R in a state that I deem unhealthy.

I find that the 93R excels at killing lights (2 bursts to the body), yet, in my opinion it seems that it often lacks the ability to effectively deal with heavies, and especially mediums because of its punishing nature for each shot missed and low mag size. However, simply buffing damage per bullet would not be healthy for the 93R, and requires another solution.

Upping damage per bullet is not the right choice. Why? +1 damage will literally do nothing (no breakpoint changes) and +2 damage will be way too oppressive towards mediums (would 3 burst mediums and 2 burst headshot mediums) Hence I propose a better solution which actually entails lowering damage per bullet while also lowering the burst delay (which would make it so you have to wait less time between bursts):

Damage 26 > 24
Burst interval/delay: 0,275 > 0,2

Body TTK:
Light: 0,52 > 0,70 (light body TTK actually increases, I'll explain in the next paragraph). Shots needed: 7 (2 bursts + 1)
Medium: 1,19 > 1,02 Shots needed: 11 (3 bursts + 2)
Heavy: 1,64 > 1,40 Shots needed: 15 (5 bursts)

Head TTK
Light: 0,40 > 0,38 Shots needed: 5 (1 burst + 2)
Medium: 0,79 > 0,64 Shots needed: 7 (2 bursts + 1)
Heavy: 0,91 > 0,96 Shots needed: 10 (3 bursts + 1)

Why it makes sense: Embark's idea for this weapon was for it to be a weapon that benefits from precise aim, and going for headshots (source, season 3 patch notes dev note);

Following this thought process, let me give an example (and why light body shots only TTK increases): With these proposed adjustments, if you fire 2 bursts and only even 1 of those bullets hit the head, with the remaining hitting the body, you will be able to 2 burst a light (TTK of 0,44). This means that if you hit a single headshot in those 2 clicks/bursts, you will be able to 2 burst a light.

This is in contrast to just 2 bursting them with body shots only in its current state, which I find oppressive and unfair to the M11, a weapon with higher recoil and shorter effective range. The 93R with very low recoil should not go toe-to-toe with the M11 in this regard.

With these changes, body TTK times for other classes are also way more reasonable and in general very slightly higher/lower with similar weapons like the XP-54.

The 93R reloads fast and does alot of damage when actually bursting. The tradeoff is that you have a low, punishing mag size; the 93R is very punishing even if you miss a single shot, as it can prevent you reaching a breakpoint quickly. This also applies to completely missing bursts, which due to the low mag size can prevent you from finishing off enemies. The actual burst nature also serves as a very slight tradeoff (you cannot really prefire the 93R). These tradeoffs in my opinion would balance out the buffs I'm proposing.

Should these changes be implemented, I would also propose that the 93R's damage drop-off be lowered to 23m to 35m (current drop-off starts at 28m), leaving about 55% of its damage at 35M. I think the 93R would work perform well in that range, while leaving ranges beyond that better suited to the XP-54, the ARN, and the LH1, while not interfering with the M11's shorter optimal range where the M11 should rightfully dominate.

What it solves:

  • very oppressive body TTK towards light.
  • lacklustre performance against mediums and when hitting body and headshots
  • lacklustre performance against heavies when hitting body shots, but equalizes this by very slightly increasing TTK time with headshots (0,91 > 0,96)
  • brings out the headshot aspect that embark originally proposed for this weapon

These would be simple changes to make, and it would be able to target low, medium, and high elo player groups, and would finally bring this weapon into the high elo scene, becoming an actual competitive alternative to the M11, XP-54, LH1 and the ARN, 4 competitive weapons currently that are current preferences for light users.

Final note: I use Zafferman's weapon stats for TTK sources and making the comparisons to the XP-54, for example: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Ud7Rdl3AgMw9mmfDwW2LtDMnzZQ9IIhnqSE4ivsaMTs/edit?gid=2136619021#gid=2136619021
