Too many fat people on one side. Gotta balance that shit out
They also have the Top Ten Pedal Crash jokes...http://blogs.citypages.com/blotter/2013/08/pedal_pub_crash_top_10_jokes.php
I asked a driver of a parked pedal pub if it was a good time to bike around the city to drink beer and if it was worth looking into. His exact words were, "No. Fuck no."
true story
Ha. For one thing, it looks like you get the keg as part of a package deal; so I bet the "driver" doesn't get good tips.
I always thought it was just something you kind of hopped on. Finding out you rent it makes it sound kind of lame.
edit: no keg even, you just get a cooler that you fill yourself.
You do not get the key as part of it. The Pedal Pub does not hold a liquor license. Those renting it must provide a keg if they choose. This is why almost no one has a keg on them and generally just some cans of beer if anything.
$325-380 for two hours seems like a lot of money to spend for not very much fun, especially when you have to bring your own booze.
What's supposed to be so great about them? Drunken pedaling? I can do that for much cheaper on my own.
I did it once. It's more social, like a party bus, and pplz r skeered of riding a bike and/or don't want to actually pedal one all by themselves. It also delegates all the "hard" work of planning an itinerary/theme/etc. that adds to the fun.
The independent version is way better, though.
So this actually looks like the drivers fault right? He tried to turn too hard and going too fast. I see lawsuits depending on injury severity.
Lawsuit? Everyone signs wavers before getting on releasing the Pedal Pub from liability for injuries. They also carry insurance so its not as if they'd pay anything out of pocket for a lawsuit.
Yes I know they sign a waiver for self injury but I doubt it covers drivers negligence. I guess the insurance covers them so far as they need as well so that is nice, but I can imagine the yearly premium is going to bump up quite a bit.
Insurance could be interesting. Premiums are going to be crazy high to start with for any company that is covering them. "You say you want to drive a bike around on a street with drunk people on it, holding on where they can easily fall off.... OK....."
Did they save the beer !!!???
obligatory joke about being tipsy
I guess I understand the traffic blocking argument, but there isn't much difference between a party bus and pedal pub when it comes to customers running into a bar to piss and ditch.

At the bar I did security at, we wouldn't let party buses in. We were a bit more lenient with the pedal pub groups, but honestly, they weren't nearly as bad as the party bus people.
Why wouldn't a bar let people in if they came on a party bus? Isn't it just a larger group of paying customers?
Where does Brad work? I need to avoid ever going there.

What if this rolled by your house 6 times a day? https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=F7kLgYeqLY4
or this?
Can someone please tell me why the hell the Star Tribune doesn't have a God damned mobile site?!
While you're at it, can you tell me why I'm so upset about this?!
They do
fuck the peddle pub and every dumb asshole that has ever been on it
Good traffic blocking annoying drunk people.
This incident aside - and it does make it clear they need to have a tighter handle on things - I feel like the pushback is going too far. Living in a city means compromising and sharing space sometimes. The fact that people get so up in arms whenever people are a little irritating or publicly drunk only goes to make Minneapolis a more stoogy, less fun place. I find them a little annoying too - but I put up with it because I'm glad they're having a good time and I hope they put up with me should I ever be drunk or annoying.
And I couldn't care less about the traffic thing. You don't have a right to never be slightly delayed or inconvenienced when driving down a city street, whether it's because of a bicycle, a dump trunk, a bus, or a pedal pub. City streets have to be shared; they are for more than just getting your ass to your destination as fast as possible. There are billions upon untold billions of dollars with of highways and freeways that you can rage around on without suffering other modes of transportation.
Well said. I personally don't care for the pedal pub antics or want to participate, but it doesn't mean they shouldn't be around. It's a business, it's fun, it adds to our culture and urban appeal, etc.
I'm also not impressed by the rallying of "THESE PEOPLE ARE LIKE TOTALLY DRUNK DRIVING, LIKE LEGALLY THIS IS DRUNK DRIVING, AMIRITE GUYS?". Sigh. The employee who is the actual "driver" is not drinking. Please stop.
I do get kind of worried when I drive by one on a street, but it's the same stress I feel when driving closely to bikers on the road. I worry about accidentally sideswiping them - especially since these people have been drinking and as far as I know, aren't secured in their seats (are they?). At least bikers are wearing helmets.

I'd argue that it's a matter of common courtesy more than anything. Pedal pubbers shouldn't be throwing beer cans on sidewalks, but they do and it's annoying. They probably shouldn't be moseying north on Central at 5:15 on Friday afternoon, but again you'll see that.
I've never heard of anyone complaining about the pedal pub that Amsterdam operates in downtown St. Paul. I'd imagine that's because they're not blocking traffic and it's much harder to be a nuisance when there's no residential areas.
Amsterdam actually banned pedal pubs now.
But Amsterdam doesn't have streets built for actual traffic like we do.
I was referring to Amsterdam Bar in downtown St Paul. It's on the corner of two multi lane one way streets.
It's just funny that they banned Pedal Pubs when they originated there.
Just a matter of time before one here gets into an accident with a car and people really start to take a look at them and how safe they are.

If I were using a full lane, going 5 miles an hour with blocks of nothing ahead of me, yes. Contributing does not equal blocking, dimwit.
what push back?
I think it just sounded cool.
No. There was a dedicated protest group at the pedal pub races not to mention a dozen bitchy comments on this thread.
But you do have a right not to be stuck behind some cunt who can't drive with the flow (aka 15 under the limit?!!), a biker who doesn't obey traffic rules or some other idiot who is in a hurry and is taking an illegal U-turn at a green arrow and delaying 15 cars on the way to work for 5 minutes until it changes again.
