Can someone help with shame feelings with crying kitten?

We adopted a 2 month old kitten this weekend. We have another cat (were going to introduce them slowly) thats why we only choose for one kitten.

As expected the kitten is quite stressed when alone. She screams her lungs out when she's not full of food and super sleepy haha. I'm totally ok with it because she's a baby and it will get less with time.

The thing I'm struggling with is neighbors and people passing by the house. We already had people ringing our door to ask if everything is ok when I'm making food for myself and eating it away from the kitten. I feel ashamed.

I know I shouldn't care about what other people think, but does anyone understand the feeling and maybe have tips??
