Best cat safe cleaning products + cleaning with cats tips
I am a self-proclaimed helicopter parent who researches every product before bringing it into my home. My kitties are my children, and I let them on all the surfaces (judge me, I don’t care), so I always have to make sure I get cleaning products that are safe for them.
There are so many cleaning products that are potentially harmful to cats. And, as cats are constantly licking themselves, anything on their fur will be digested. So, you gotta be careful! Plus, opting for toxic-free cleaning products isn’t just good for your cat; it is good for you and the environment.
Anyway, here are my top picks of cat-safe cleaning products I swear by:
Clean Smart: Clean Smart is perfect for the kitchen and bathroom. I use the daily surface cleaner, and it keeps everything spotless. It is made with simple ingredients and does not include any nasties like ammonia. I like how it doesn’t smell like anything, but I know this is my own preference. I personally don’t like strong-smelling cleaning products, so this really works well for me.
Vinegar and Water: A vinegar and water mix is another all-purpose cleaning I use, especially when it comes to stains and stubborn limescale. A simple half-and-half mix is a lifesaver that I have used loads in the bathroom. It is also great for getting the sink and stove to properly shine.
Nature’s Miracle: If you have a litter box, these wipes are really great at giving your litter box a good scrub, removing nasty smells, they hold up and are safe.
Baking Soda: It is a cleaning trick as old as time, but it works and is cat-safe. For carpets and soft furnishings, I always get out the baking soda. I sprinkle some onto a stain and leave it for an hour or so before giving it a vacuum. I find it really good at dealing with any nasty smells, too.
These are the products I use, but there are so many out there that are safe for cats. You just need to have a look around and research what you want to use. To finish off my cat cleaning musings, I will give you some tips on cleaning with fur babies:
- Getting the right litter makes a whole load of difference, especially when it comes to odor. I use a low-dust clumping litter currently, and it is amazing stuff. It doesn’t track, which means I am not constantly sweeping up after the cats.
- Look out for anything toxic when buying cleaning products. Ingredients toxic to cats include ammonia, bleach, formaldehyde, phthalates, and essential oils. If in doubt, don’t use it.
- Getting a self-cleaning litter box will change your life, especially if you have more than one kitty, like me.
- Put mats under their dishes. My girls are messy, so it means I can clean the mats when I clean their dishes (every day). Easier than cleaning the floor every day.
- Use pet-safe enzymatic cleaners for any accidents. I mentioned Nature’s Miracle earlier, and this has been fantastic for getting rid of urine smells.
Well, that’s all, folks! Keep clean and keep safe :)
