My dad never spends Father’s Day with me

I am 23/f and don’t remember the last time I spent Father’s Day with my dad. He gets to choose when he takes calls for work, and always takes one on Father’s Day—or at least for the past four years or so he has. It just makes me sad.

Background Info

• My parents never married, but separated eventually
• Dad abused mom (physically and emotionally)
• Mom died when I was 8
• Grandparents raised me; dad lived on his own and would see me from time to time. Would sometimes cancel plans on me without telling me.
• I talk to my dad but we do not see each other often. Maybe once a month or sometimes over a month.
• When we do talk though, it’s mostly about him and his job. Doesn’t pay much attention to me or what I say
• He never remarried. No other kids

Wanted to provide all of that info so that readers can see that he we have a rocky-ish relationship and are not close due to him not raising me and to things he has done. But even though he has done all of that, I still talk to him. I also buy him gifts for holidays and birthdays as well; so it is not like I forget about him or do not care at all.

It just hurts my feelings that he still abandons me to this day and does not act like a dad—and that he also clearly does not care enough about me. Wanted to see if anyone can provide insight or have experienced this as well.
