T Foetus infection questions

General Advice

We got a sphynx kitten at the beginning of the year (brought her home on Jan 5).

Background, because its relevant to our struggle. Had first vet appointment at 8.30am the following day. She did have loose stools/diarrhea (and sssoooo stinky) a couple of days after getting her, which we had attributed to being stressed about moving to a new home and adjusting with our dog (a Chihuahua). After it didn't clear up for a couple weeks, we had the vet run a basic fecal (Jan 28). She tested positive for Giardia. Parents and other kittens from the litter had no issues (we had contacted our br33der to ask about them). We treated the Giardia, and her second fecal tested negative, but later the same day (AFTER) I dropped off her 2 week fecal, she had diarrhea with more bloody mucus at the end than normal (Feb 19, and a reschedule of her spay, which was supposed to be the 20th). So a week later, we were back on the metrodizonal (sp? because they were out of stock and needed to wait for more). Retest again 14 days after, still clear but still having issues and horrendous smell (fecal drop off Mar 26th).

So after another 14 days, its now May 9th. Stiiill having the same issues- diarrhea with (sometimes) bloody mucus at the end. They said she would be fine enough to get her spay (which had been rescheduled for the 17th), and that they would have us collect the tubes for a full PCR at that appointment. We did wait until the following Friday to drop it off (the 25th), because she DID have a nice, solid, no stink poo. We had also just gotten a rabbit protien based, limited ingredient food, thinking that maybe it was a food allergy, since we've read up that its fairly common for sphynx to have a chicken allergy. Her solid, no stink poo was the day after her spay, and 1 day fully on the new food. We were on the phone with the br33der while it happened. But a couple days later- right back to it.

Monday the 28th we got the results back- T Foetus (which I had guessed based on research- she was still crazy playful, ate like crazy, drank normally, and used the litter box on a semi-regular schedule, and was gaining weight as predicted for her estimated adult size). Per the br33der, shes the same size and weight as her mom was at her age, and is the same weight as her sister. Still, neither of the parents nor any of her siblings (just one boy and one girl) are having any tummy troubles. It took 1 week to recieve the medicine from the pharmacy, as metrodizonal (which is the general treatment) was clearly not working, and we had the type that was obviously resistant to that treatment.

Unfortunately, Tinidazole was our only option, as Ronidazole is apparently on indefinite backorder here in the US. We are 13 days into treatment, and tomorrow is her last dose. We thought, a few days in, that it was working, as her poo had actual form, no bloody mucus, and didn't smell!!! UNTIL day 5. Then it was right back to normal. The only difference is slightly less smelly, and has some form but is still super soft and gooey. Last night, there was some bloody mucus at the end again 😭

I messaged the vet tonight (will not hear back until tomorrow) about maybe bringing her in for a new weight (I'm sure she's gained some, as her primordial pouch is now filled out since her last weigh-in), and doing it again but for longer. Of course I'm not a vet, but this is what I've been reading from vet sites. We do already change her litter every other day (we started using the liners, so we can use less litter, too, to not be so wasteful), clean it out immediately after she uses it, make sure her butt is wiped after every poo, and keep her feet clean, clothes regularly changed and blankets regularly washed.

I'm at a loss of what else to do, and any advice is greatly appreciated ❤️
