Job searching

So, I've been out of a programming job for the last year. I've been looking the entire time with no luck. Even though I have 5.5 years of .net experience.

Recently, since it's been so long since I had a programming job and it just looks bad to have such large gap. I've decided to put the main project I've been working on at the top of my resume before the work history to fill in the gaps.

Working with C, C++, C#, Vulkan(Graphics Api), creating DLLs, and calling them with P/Invoke in C#.I've also added in a few of the separate tools that I was working on. Would a strategy like this work to make up for the employment gap?

So the basic layout is:
-Basic info/Contact info
-Personal Summary
-Personal Projects
-Tools
-Work Experience
-Education
