Casper or Bear: Two talked about mattress brands, how do they compare?
After years of chasing better sleep (and being that person in the group chat who gets all the “which mattress should I buy?” messages), I finally made it a mission to actually invest in my sleep, and help others get the bestest sleep too, which is why I love being here!
I’m a side sleeper, I sleep hot, and I’ve tried more beds than I care to admit, but two brands I keep circling back to are Casper and Bear.
Casper’s the OG bed-in-a-box name you probably already know. Bear’s less flashy but markets itself to recovery, cooling, and serious support. I’ve slept on multiple models from both, so here’s the breakdown of how they actually compare for you.
Let’s get into it.
1. Best for everyday comfort: Casper Original vs Bear Original
These are the all-foam flagships — no coils, just layered foams.
Casper Original has that medium-firm “just right” feel. It’s responsive, a little bouncy, and works well for combo sleepers who switch positions.
Bear Original leans into memory foam territory. It’s softer, more contouring, and isolates motion better.
Casper wins on:
- Zoned support that helps stomach sleepers avoid hip sink
- Lighter feel that makes it easier to switch positions
Bear wins on:
- Better motion isolation for couples
- Cooler surface (thanks to copper + Celliant cover)
Watch-outs:
- Casper’s edge support isn’t great if you sit or sleep near the sides
- Bear’s deeper hug can feel a bit too “stuck” for restless sleepers
2. Best for hot sleepers: Casper Snow Hybrid vs Bear Elite Hybrid
These are both premium cooling hybrids, but they cool in different ways.
Casper Snow Hybrid uses “HeatDelete” bands in the foam layers to pull heat down and away from your body.
Bear Elite Hybrid uses copper-gel memory foam and a phase-change quilted Celliant cover that actually feels cool to the touch.
Casper Snow highlights:
- Slightly softer Euro-top feel — great for lighter side sleepers
- Good motion control for a hybrid
Bear Elite wins on:
- Cooler sleep surface in testing (88°F vs Casper’s 91°F)
- Zoned coils for extra lumbar support and stronger edge support
- Washable top cover = underrated perk
Just note:
- Bear Elite is tall (14"), so you’ll want deep-pocket sheets
- Casper Snow runs $300–$400 more, depending on size and promo
3. For heavier sleepers or long-term durability: Casper Wave Hybrid vs Bear Elite Hybrid (Firm)
If you need serious support or want a mattress built to last a decade or more, these are the flagship options.
Casper Wave Hybrid adds gel pods under your lower back and mixes in latex for some bounce.
Bear Elite Hybrid (Firm) doubles down on zoning and firmness — and comes with a lifetime warranty on the hybrid models.
Casper Wave shines for:
- Zoned foam + gel pods = nice lift under the lumbar area
- Bouncy feel makes movement easier
Bear Elite (Firm) stands out for:
- Zoned coils and high-density foams that hold up for 250+ lb bodies
- Cooler sleep and zip-off washable cover
- Excellent edge support for sitting, sprawling, or sleeping near the edge
Downsides:
- Casper Wave traps a bit more heat
- Bear Firm is likely too firm for lighter side sleepers
So… which one’s right for you?
My thoughts.. pick Casper if you:
- Sleep mostly on your back or stomach
- Prefer a mattress with a bit of bounce
- Want that “universal feel” that works for most of us (great guest room bed choice)
- Care about sustainability (Casper uses recycled cover yarn)
Pick Bear if you:
- Sleep hot, or wake up sweaty (I feel ya)
- Are a side sleeper or heavier sleeper who needs serious pressure relief
- Want a mattress that’s geared toward muscle recovery or post-workout rest
- Like the idea of a removable cover and a lifetime warranty on hybrids
My recommended setup here...
Bear Elite Hybrid (Medium) in the main bedroom, it’s cool, supportive, and helps with hip pressure. Keep a Casper Original in the guest room because it’s comfy, neutral, and pretty much everyone likes it.
Tried one of these and have thoughts? Would love to hear your pros and cons.
