Laser Toner costs among brands

Purchasing

I have had a Brother MFC 9130cw for years, but now it will not power up. I've looked up the price of a replacement power supply and logic board (the most likely culprits) and it's not worth the cost to try to fix.

So I am looking at replacement color laser all in ones, and I went comparing the toner replacement cost and I am really surprised by the difference in cost. Namely, Brother and Canon and reasonably priced and HP and Lexmark are really expensive. And I am talking about third party brands -- I always buy the "compatible" brands, never the printer brand replacements.

The cost for a 4 cartridge compatible toner on Amazon for Canon MF653Cdw and Brother L3720CDW are just around $70-80.

The cost for a 4 cartridge compatible toner on Amazon for HP 3301sdw are around $130 and up.

The Lexmark CX331adwe toner costs are so insane, I stopped looking. I did not see a 4 toner set for less than $400, so something is crazy there.

Based on this investigation, I may buy the Brother as replacement. The costs of the units are all around the $400 range, so no real difference there. The only difference is the Canon which I can get that unit as a refurb for around $250 but it doesn't have the scanner auto document feed, so that Is my only current internal debate.

What I found most interesting about this search is that Canon and Brother seems to be at the top of the list for reliability, so I was happy when I discovered that their ongoing costs will be the lowest.

Anyway -- I don't have a question. It's just an observation. I wonder if others have noticed the same thing.
