Hyperventilation Symdrome

Advice

A bit of background: I was diagnosed with PTSD way back in 2011 by a psychiatrist. What initially took me to a psychiatrist was intense bouts of hyperventilation. I went to my GP who ran many tests and assured me it was not physical and was likely psychosomatic. Since that time I’ve been in therapy and take low dose antidepressants and manage almost all of my symptoms very well. The only one that is still majorly life impacting is the hyperventilation. It doesn’t last for hours - it’s last for days and even some times over a week. It makes my chest muscles hurt from labouring to breathe. I get lightheaded and dizzy, my feet and hands go numb. It’s impossible to get comfortable and fall asleep at times. I have found nothing that helps. Breathing exercises don’t help but they pull focus back to my breathing and it makes the problem worse. Distraction helps but not always.

Does anyone have ANY advice? I’ve been having an episode of this now for 8 days and my back and chest muscles hurt, I’m struggling to be productive and I had a panic attack early when I felt like I was so lightheaded I was going to pass out. I’m desperate to know if anyone has dealt with this to this extent and found a way to manage it successfully. EMDR? Anything at all?

Thanks so much!
