theoretical: losing your job/license over a partner's crimes?
Guys, I am on staycation and as part of my rest and relaxation, rewatching The Fall. For those unaware, The Fall is a serial killer show taking place in Belfast Northern Ireland in which the serial killer works as a grief counselor and his wife as a NICU nurse. Seeing as I've watched this before and know the plot, I'm focusing on details I might not have thought about the first time through. In one scene, one of the killer's bereaved clients is relating that she used to be a registered daycare provider, but when her husband went to prison, they took away her license. That seemed kinda harsh; the kids being babysat are in no danger from the guy NOW IN PRISON and they take away the poor woman's business?
In another scene, after the serial killer tries to explain away his absences to his wife as being caused by an affair with their underage babysitter and she, understandably, wants to call the cops on him for supposedly having sex with a 15 year old, he tells her that if he goes on the sex offenders list, *she* would lose her NICU job. Again, seems harsh, especially since in US terms she's a mandated reporter and would certainly be in more trouble for NOT turning him in.
Could/would a US nurse lose their license or their job if their spouse or partner was convicted of a sexual or other serious crime and I'm being naive that that could never happen? UK nurses, is the show accurate or is that all dramatic license (pun intended?) Obviously I have too much time on my hands, but indulge me please.
