Tick treatment options

I took my cat to see a vet earlier this week because I found a tick crawling in her fur. The vet gave my cat the multi-advantage topical treatment saying that it treats ticks. I come back home, do a quick search on the internet to find that advantage does NOT actually treat ticks. I called the vet back and ask for actual tick medication, and he has it but adds that I now can’t give her the new medication for 30 days.

Any other ideas? Tick collar perhaps?
