Nostalgia?
The discussion around the new game has brought up comparisons with how we used to experience gaming and how some of us feel that games were better 'back in the day'.
Basically we're not really impressed with the quality of some games now compared to 15+ years ago.
The main counter argument I've seen to this is that our opinions are more driven by nostalgia instead of the thought that games in the past actually being objectively better experiences. Essentially people are saying that we're living in the past, and that we need to come to terms with the way gaming is now.
My question is: As someone who plays skate 2 regularly even today, sometimes for hours at a time, can this even be considered nostalgia? I'm not playing the game because it was good in 2009, I feel like I'm playing the game because its good now. It might not have modern graphics and physics but I don't feel like that stops the game from being fun.
I mean if we want to talk about nostalgia there are even communities dedicated to playing ancient games like tetris and super mario NES. I think its pretty cool that games as an art can be preserved through community effort.
TLDR: Can it be labelled as nostalgia when someone is actively playing older games today and not just having good memories of playing when they were younger?
