Hi everyone - I just went to my first pole class and the energy in the room was pretty uncomfortable. It was a “beginner foundations class” and it was me, the instructor, the 3 other girls.

It was a beginner class but everyone seemed to know the basics already, which is totally fine. Why I’m uncomfortable is because you could cut the tension with a knife. The instructor was giving us affirmations to say out loud, asking everyone how they were doing, asking how the day was going, and literally no one said a word.

It felt like people were annoyed that the instructor was focused on teaching me the absolute basics. I can understand that, but again, this was a beginner class.

I’ve taken other similar classes, aerial silks, Lyra, etc, and everyone was so supportive. Everyone was so welcoming to new people, inclusive, and understanding that they are brand new. I ended up just watching a lot of the class because I could not keep up with the flow, and I also didn’t want to slow anyone down.

I can’t tell if I’m overreacting to this or if this is normal? Any feedback is appreciated. I wanted to do pole because I feel like it can be so empowering, it’s a great workout, and it’s just really cool in general to me!
