5.5 month old had gone from the 1st percentile to the 50th in 5.5 weeks

Question - Expert consensus required

Hi all, I have a 5.5 month old baby boy, at birth he was 3.2kg and despite immediately having a perfect latch and breastfeeding happily, he just struggled to transfer the milk effectively and wasn't gaining weight well. So I switched to exclusively pumping and bottle feeding him at 3 weeks old and had a large oversupply that allowed me to freeze around 30 litres.

From birth to 4 months he has basically stayed on the 3rd percentile for weight. At his 4 month appointment he had dropped to the 1st percentile and they suggested offering him more milk at each feed (he was already on 34-37oz/day which far exceeded the calculations the maternal health nurses gave me, so I hadn't exceeded that much prior unless he was obviously still hungry).

Fast forward to now, he eats 47-54oz/day and has gone from 5.32kg (1st) to 7.62kg (50th) in 5.5 weeks and is still gaining weight at a rapid pace compared to the charts. I'm just wondering if this is just him making up for lost time? Is there reason behind the sudden gain? His head is in the 90th percentile and his height has been consistently growing at the same rate as his weight (even when he gained a lot last month).

When he feeds he doesn't guts himself and takes his time on the bottle, he also pushes it away and turns his head when he's full and is a happy active baby.

Just curious about other people's experiences, TIA ❤️
