By The Water's Side

Poem

When I need a moment to think of life as late,

Near the water’s side is where I make estate.

I am not oft unguarded, with others nor myself.

While water is no cure, for a time, it makes me feel un-held.

The water is a constant—soothing, even when not silent.

My favorite kind to sit beside is the kind that runs.

Though, due to circumstance, I settle for what stands hushed.

The venture is not oft a thrill,

Though neither is the water’s sill.

Music aids in motion as the walk is walked.

Upon final arrival, my mind can find a lull.

I adore the water for that skill: how it makes my thoughts go still.

The water calls my name, though never in good stage.

The water calls when duties are undone.

The water calls when the sky lacks a sun.

The water calls when responsibility is unequivocally in need.

The water calls when the time is wrong—when the night is strong.

The water calls when the moon is high, and sleep is nigh.

The water calls when the body is weak, and the soul is meek.

The water calls when I’m in need—

Of it.

While by the water’s side, the stories that reside

Within my chaos mind

Are freed from the inside—allowed unfold in kind.

That is the water’s pride: its silent, calm beside.

Its ever-winding surface, washed in tiny waves,

Welled by westy winds.

The sight is much to see—

At least, it is for me.

Nothing shapes my soul like precious waters full.
