Aftermarket sound
I am shopping around for a better radio for my E85. I have found a few, and I also need to do a wire conversion in order for the process to go smooth, and still allow me to use the controls on the wheel. My issue is this. I have 10 speakers, but no DSP. Just the regular business unit. ChatGPT says the install is fairly standard with this part FK-239-SWC - The wire kit, etc. But keeps talking about the wakeup wire between the amp, and the head unit. GPT cannot give me a solid answer if the FK-239-SWC is a one stop solution. Do I still need to break that blue wire out, and manually connect it to the head unit. My big question though, is will the connects2 dongle or FK-239-SWC harness support this? At the end of the day, I don't want to botch up cable, in the event I sell down the road, I want to install the original.
On the new head unit, you’ll see a wire labeled something like:
- “AMP REM” or
- “REMOTE TURN-ON” or
- “ANT CONT” (antenna control — sometimes shared).
It’s usually blue with a white stripe. That’s your outgoing 12 V signal when the radio turns on.
You connect it to:
-
the solid blue wire on the FK-239-SWC harness (that’s the amp/antenna trigger wire on the car-side).
