Everytime I buy a bunch of my cat's favorite flavor of food, he immediately hates it and and doesn't want it. EVERY. DAMN. TIME.
It's ridiculous how fucking picky he is about this. Right now his primary food is Fancy Feast Petites. I buy a box that comes with 8 chicken, 8 salmon, and 8 whitefish. Guess which one of those is his favorite flavor. If you guessed, "none of the above", you'd be correct! His actual favorite flavor is the beef - because that's the one that doesn't come in the variety packs, of course. No problem; I can order boxes of the beef-only flavor on Chewy with the variety pack. Inevitably though, he'll go through the beef and then turn his nose up at the other flavors so I have to go around when I'm running errands and stop at Petco/PetSmart/local pet store hoping they sell the beef flavor.
So anyway, he ate all of his beef last week and the local stores didn't have any, so he was forced to eat his less-preferred flavors. The monthly Chewy order is still a week away. But as luck would have it, I was next to Petco yesterday and stopped in and saw they had a bunch of the beef. So I bought almost all of them. I get home thinking he's going to be a happy kitty for the next week but guess what - no interest. WTF??? The thing is, if I would've only bought 3 or 4 packs he somehow would've known and happily eaten them and begged for more. But since I bought 12, he doesn't want it anymore. Spoiled little bastard.
In the past, I'd just ignore his begging for something different so he'd be forced to eat was he was given (and asked for) or starve. (Or eat the dry food that's always available, but he really doesn't like that.) But I can't really do that anymore since we got a kitten back in May who will gladly eat whatever food is there. So I can't just leave it out because the kitten will eat it as soon as Zeus (the fussy kitty) steps away. Which is a problem, because even though he's still growing I've had enough cats in my life to recognize the signs of impending chonkerism which the kitten (Enzo) is starting to exhibit.
So now I have to watch Zeus eat and put his food up if he steps away in disgust at not having his favorite flavor in the moment. All because he just wants to be fussy.
