am I able to jump in at issue #3?

I just found this pub and I love the style and genre but I've never read it before. In theory I'd love to go for the subscription but I wanna read an issue or two before going for it in case I hate it, my options are either buying issue #1 online with like $10 shipping or just grabbing issue #3 at a comic shop down the street from me. I've never followed periodicals like this, am I able to just jump into the current issue? Or is the continuity serious
