My coworkers barely talk to me

Workplace Challenges and Conflicts

I’m a little over three months into my department now, and work in a new space with new coworkers. A lot of them are extremely close with one another as they’ve been working with each for 2+ years and rely heavily on one another to complete projects. A lot of them even go to the movies together after work—they are that close.

For context, I am 24, the other youngest person is probably around 30 or so. I also have virtually no social skills—important note to add lol. Additionally, we all sit in cubicles that are very high up (I’m short and on multiple occasions people have said they didn’t know I was even sitting there bc they couldn’t see me). I mention cubicles, bc in a way, I feel like they are kind fo isolating—especially since no one is on the right or left side of me (left side of me—coworker left, right side has the windows).

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone has any advice? I hate to even say this, but it is kind of negatively impacting my emotions on top of an already stressful work load. I want to so desperately be friends with/closer to people to make work more enjoyable, but it seems impossible. I only really talk to people if they give me work to do (I am the only entry level person in the department), but would like to form build rapport/friendships and have no idea how!
