Is "sample snitching" something drum & bass producers care about?
A lot of hip-hop beat makers are pissed off about people revealing their samples online, but it seems to be the only community I heard complaining about it. Is it a thing drum & bass producers have strong opinions on? And if so, do they care where (in a tracklist or comment on Discogs or YouTube vs. on WhoSampled)?
The WhoSampled database might be easier for copyright lawyers to troll, and beatmakers might have a higher profile than your average drum & bass producer, so there might be differences. I try to find the source of every sample I like and note them down in my collection (or tell people if they're interested), but I don't add them to WS, but the database is of course also useful, especially if you're not familiar with a certain genre or don't know how to find samples. For me the worst part of it is obviously Baauer's punchable face showing up in my video recommendations, making his 500th short video reading the same website, acting surprised that a famous song incorporated another song.
