This is a Lossless FLAC compilation project of mine with every song Nick Drake has made/been a part of. It also includes Molly Drake’s “The Tide's Magnificence (Songs and Poems of Molly Drake)”. This project came about after I had spent a couple of years listening to [[The Nick Drake Sessions: The Complete Bootlegs: r/nickdrake](https://www.reddit.com/r/nickdrake/comments/j1pz7l/the_nick_drake_sessions_the_complete_bootlegs/)\] and wanted higher quality versions of everything (they were in mp3). That bootleg also came out long before The Making of Five Leaves Left, making it outdated... About six months ago, I ended up also uploading that bootleg to my YouTube channel [TwilightPeaks] to help people have easier access to Nick's back catalogue of unreleased recordings. I gained nearly 800 subscribers from uploading them. I felt a little guilty, considering all I did was edit them together into video format and upload them (I did properly credit u/magikarpower), so that contributed to the need to put together my own compilation. This project took over two straight days to research and complete, and I had to go through quite a few different bootlegs to make sure I got the highest quality versions I could find.
Everything is dated and ordered to the best of my ability, with information on almost every album (Excluding Bryter Layter, Five Leaves Left and the high-quality vinyl rips) primarily sourced from Richard Morton Jacks’ “Nick Drake: The Life.”
Cally Callomon has stated there will be a book published next year by Adam Foster, which will detail all the tapes and all the takes, so until then, these forms of dating will have to do.
There are a lot of unreleased recordings of Nick that are being held by the estate, so a few of these are, of course, missing tracks, and the info.txt does not have a lot of detail due to there not being a lot of information available.
There is a tiny snippet of a live performance in the documentary Fruit Tree at 8:46:
I may have missed or mislabeled some of the folders/songs, as well as numbered songs incorrectly, so if you catch anything, please be sure to leave a comment, and I will correct it. If anyone has any songs that I missed, please dm me or leave a comment.
1965 Early Far Leys Recordings
2 tracks, taken from Family Tree
1967 May 15th Aix-en-Provence tape
11 tracks taken primarily from Family Tree and A Day Gone By
1967-68 Far Leys home recordings
23 tracks taken from Family Tree, A Day Gone By, and Time Has Told Me
1968 Cambridge tapes
12 tracks taken from The Making of Five Leaves Left, Family Tree, and Made to Love Magic
1968-69 Brian Wells tapes
12 tracks taken from A Day Gone By and Time Has Told Me
1968-69 Far Leys recordings + Work Tape
15 tracks taken from A Day Gone By, Time of No Reply, Second Grace, and Time Has Told Me.
On tracks 02 - Time Has Told Me, and 08 - Poor Boy they were originally slowed down on the bootleg Time Has Told Me, and their versions on A Day Gone By were in worse quality, but appeared to be in the correct(er) speed so I had to manually go in and speed them up myself to try and get them as close as I could to the same speed as they are in A Day Gone By. So they should be in both the highest quality and the correct speed.
1969 Five Leaves Left - Inside the sub folder contains:
1968 Rejected Richard Hewson Arrangements
1968-69 The Making Of Five Leaves Left (Complete Edition) - Contains bootlegged outtakes + The Making Of Five Leaves Left + Time Of No Reply + Made to Love Magic remixes/remasters, all correctly ordered and labelled using The Making Of Five Leaves Left Booklet (sessions tracklists are located in the sources folder) to the best of my ability. Some could be mislabeled, but the only way to know would be if we had access to every single available take. I matched the bootlegs based on any evidence of which take they may be (e.g., Joey Take 2, 20th December 1968), the length of the songs, and the quality. Disk 2 features Robert Kirby’s arrangement of "Magic" (Taken from Made to Love Magic, 2004), which I believe was originally recorded on Thursday, April 11, 1968, with the orchestration done in 2003-04. On disk 3, Man in A Shed (Take 1, 10th May 1968) could also be Man in A Shed (Take 1 from tape box, 10th May 1968).
