Ludicrous lag I'm having on Balmung

So last night was Monday and of course that means tomestone cap reset! So I was doing a bunch of dungeons last night and occasionally there'd be lag, was a bit of a bother but I made it with very little trouble. I come back on today to do some mining for my level 30 mining quest and the most ludicrous and horrifying lag I've ever had starts popping up. I'm standing by nodes and clicking. Sometimes my character won't start mining until 10 seconds later. Other times while mining I would click the item to mine and it would highlight but my character would stand there unmoving as the connection or whatever processed what was supposed to happen. This is almost horrible. I was worried at first and thought it was something to do with my connection. I tried fixing my router and modem by resetting them and having doomsday thoughts like "What if our router's starting to malfunction?" and whatnot. I did hear another person shout that they too were having the exact same weird issue while THEY were mining, so I'm HOPING beyond hope that this is Square's fault, and that they are fixing it. Because when I was /shouting about it not everyone said they were having lag. So I don't know what to think. Can anyone here please shed some light on this for me?

In all honesty, with the less-than-trivial amount of people experiencing issues, this probably isn't SE or you. Too many people to be user-error, too few people/not all on the same server, so I doubt it's an SE issue.

It sounds like there could easily be an issue in a major backbone that is causing some routing issues right now.

DNS is domain name service. All it does is translate something like www.Google.com to an IP address such as 64.233.160.1. This service is usually only used once when connecting to a new IP node. So in a game like FFXIV, after the connection is made, DNS can go completely down and it wouldn't matter. It wouldn't affect latency in any way. Cheers.

I was getting awful lag spikes in dungeons last night on Malboro, was hoping it would be better tonight :( Still at work, hope it's cleared up later! Usually lag is not an issue for me, but last night the game would stop then start with everyone 10 feet ahead of where they were a second ago lol. Not fun trying to heal that way!

Charter; issues started after the hot fix. Had had some after a previous update but they had cleared up at some point. Last night I started getting bad stutters in Coerthas and 90k.

It's happening to me too, but only in SUPER congested areas. Chat works, I can move and cast (with hefty delays) but everyone is locked in place and suddenly everything rubberbands. My packets sent/received drop tremendously but my ping is fine on anything else. Not sure what to do, I've tried googling the problem but I'm not too tech savvy and I can't seem to find anything.

I have Comcast and am also on Balmung.

I'm a little glad that it's not just me experiencing the terrible lag spikes. I'm playing from China so I figured it was my ISP.

Some days I'll also get 90k disconnect errors every 30 minutes which is insanely frustrating.

Getting non-stop lag on Hyperion last night and this evening.... 90ks and 10-60 second stops back to back to back. its horrible right now... pretty bad when i cant even mindlessly fate grind....

Yeah, i was seeing it to. Mostly i see it in Gridania. All of my crafting macros stopped working with the /wait 3 in them. Also having a hard time clicking on things like in the market board or vendors or even my own inventory. Seems fine outside of town though.

I am on Balmung with Time Warner and not experiencing any lag. A friend of is with Comcast and she was stating yesterday that she has been getting it a little bit, but nothing like what you are reporting.

Have you tried to flush the DNS?

Another to try:

  1. Open the Network and Sharing Center. In Windows 7 & 8 you go to Control Panel > Network And Internet > Network And Sharing Center

  2. On the left-hand pane, select “Change Adapter Settings”

  3. In the Network Connections windows, press the ALT key on your keyboard. You will see now that a hidden menu will appear! If you click off of this window, the menu will disappear and you will have to press ALT again to bring it up.

  4. Click the Advanced menu, then choose “Advanced Settings”

  5. Change your local internet connection to be the first item in this list.

  6. Reboot

Terrible delay on Lamia as well. It's generally not this bad, 2-3 second lag and can't start leve quests, got a 90k error and just quit.

I was rubberbanding like hell when I was on for a bit earlier today, particularly during a duty. Not on Comcast for what it's worth.

I was getting some ridiculous lag just after launch.

It turns out I did a clean boot to eliminate random steam and other startup items... One of which was my graphics card's Control Panel.

Make sure yours is running.

Just an FYI, lag isn't a drop in framerate, lag is where your abilities and stuff don't activate when they're supposed to, when they have a delay in use of when they SHOULD activate.

There is such a thing as video lag. It was one of those things when I was high end raiding (other games) we always had to look at with new recruits, and work them through possible solutions.

I get that's not what is talked about here, just tossing out a random.

I'm on Balmung, have 0 lag issues... I'm based in Vermont, which is quite close Montreal where the servers are however.

Time warner user here. GF and I get the same lag. We're on the west coast and altho some latency is expected but half a second of delay is too much for a 3 time zone difference. Also the rubberbanding and spikes suggest not a proximity issue

This morning I was in a pug party for praetorium, and at one point at LEAST 3 people completely froze up, except they could still talk in chat. the lag spike made it so they couldnt see anything move for 10-15 seconds, and then everything they missed suddenly happened for them in the span of 3-5 seconds. All in different areas of NA, all experienced the exact same problem at the exact same time.

I'm lagging as well on Diabolos. I ran Titan HM earlier today and I couldn't do anything with the horrible spikes. People would skip all over my screen and freeze every few seconds.

For what it's worth, I've never had these severe lag issues before until today.

SE needs to fix this. 80% of the time the lag is not noticeable, works great! But 20% of the time I simply cannot play the game because of all the rubber-banding.
