How to report a theft

Hello So i need some help. A friend of mine lives in vergers meyrin and he was away for work this weekend. He put his plants on the balcony (ground floor) outside the window so they could get the sunlight etc. When he returned yesterday, one of his bonsai money plant was stolen. Now i know this might be a very small deal but to him the plant had emotional significance as it was gifted by someone important.

The thing is he is an English speaker with beginner level french so he is not sure if the police would speak English.

Can anyone suggest how should he proceed with this? Is it even worth reporting to the police? Is there any online portal where he can file a complaint? If not, does he need to go to the muncipal police or the proper geneva police station?

Any help in this regards will be highly appreciated
