Is it weird to go to pubs alone?

Hi everyone!

I have a question about pub etiquette.

I really want to experience Irish pub culture, have a pint, listen to the atmosphere. The thing is, I'm travelling alone, and I'm quite introverted. Big crowds of strangers can be a bit overwhelming for me.

In some countries I've been to, pretty much everyone in bars is in groups, and sitting alone with a drink can feel a bit "sad" or out of place. So I wanted to ask locals:

Is it normal in Dublin to go to a pub alone and just have a drink by yourself? Will people think it’s weird or give you strange looks, or is it totally fine? Where is better to sit if you’re solo, at the bar, or is it okay to take a small table? Any tips on how to interact with the bartender without being awkward? Just order, pay, say thanks and that’s it?

If you also have recommendations for slightly calmer, more relaxed pubs (not super loud or packed with huge groups) where a solo visitor might feel comfortable, that would be amazing.

Thanks!
