Just an Update on my Sobriety

So a few months ago I made a post about my health and sobriety.

Here is the original post

https://www.reddit.com/r/alcoholism/comments/1mpq2t2/i_dont_think_i_have_much_longer/

Here is a breakdown if you don't feel like reading through the whole thing.

I drank quite a bit. I'm talking about a litre of Vodka a day. I did that for maybe a decade. I was somewhat of a functional alcoholic.

That was all up until I started having a quick and severe decline in my health. I started having terrible pains in my back to the point where I would be on the hardwood floor of my home literally moaning, writhing, and crying like a baby, my liver, legs, stomach were incredibly swollen, and I started to have some mental issues (I couldn't remember anything, almost like I was in a dream)

Doctors said i couldnt quit cold turkey safely so they came up with a tapering plan for me. Spent a couple nights here and there in the hospital, but was always discharged the next day. Even with them knowing I had Stage 4 Cirrhosis of the liver.

So thats pretty much where my original post ends and this is what ensued afterwards.

A week goes by and I have a scheduled appointment with my GP at 2 in the afternoon. September 12th. I remember getting up from a nap, taking a sip from my massive bottle and getting a ride to the office.

The next thing I know, I'm in the ER hooked up to a bunch of this and that with my mother sitting next to the bed. The shame I felt in that moment was absolutley horrid. Her birthday was 2 days away and she had spent it with me in the hospital. As you might have guessed, I passed out at the doctors office, and they called an ambulance. My liver had failed and could no longer process the alcohol.

The next 5 days were an absolute nightmare. I knew what to expect when it came to withdrawls, but it was pretty intense to say the least. I knew I was going to be okay, but was still worried about DT's (Delirium Tremens). I did not sleep or eat for any of those days, I was seeing and hearing some pretty outlandish things that I was convinced were real, I had to wear a diaper as i could no longer control my bowels, but usually just a bit of liquid black tar was coming out anyway. 1 out of 5 star experience.

I was eventually released from the hospital and returned home. I was bed ridden, I had lost over 20lbs which may not seem like a lot, but it is when I was a skinny 150 as it was. I was literally skin and bones. I could not walk for days.

Eventually I got my strength back, and had an appointment with a Hepotologist. Who then told me how bad my liver was and that I am without a doubt "one drink away from being dead" and that it's amazing how I'm even still alive. He then reached out to the Liver Transplant Assessment Clinic.

They promptly reached out to me and am now in the process of approval.

I have been sober for 11.5 weeks now. I know it doesnt sound like much, but its probably the only time in my life that I've gone that long without a drink.
