I have BPD- do I declare to DVLA while doing driving lessons? context below
Hi all,
I’m 29 years old and finally want to start my driving lessons again to give me something to work towards. I had some manual driving lessons earlier this year but I didn’t get on with the driver instructor and I struggle with coordination. I’ve decided I want to start automatic driving lessons in the new year and found an instructor who seems really nice and has been recommended for anxious/neurodiverse students (I am on the waiting list for an autism assessment)
However, I was discharged from the crisis team earlier this week after having worked with them for 2 months. I’m no longer actively suicidal but I have fleeting suicidal thoughts with no intent. I was prescribed short-term medication which I’m no longer using. Aside from that, I’ve been on the same sedative medication since 2017, the only difference is that it’s been increased while under crisis. It doesn’t make me more sedated even though it was increased. In fact, the increase has helped my mood.
The question is, do I need to declare this to the GP/DVLA even though I will have been discharged from crisis for 1 month if I were to start lessons in the new year? and how much do I need to share with the instructor before my first lesson?
