Hello Reddit 25F UK with 11 week old domestic shorthair. 

Backstory: 

- he was taken to the vets for the first time on the 18/11 (approx 1 week of me owning him). The breeder had said she had worm and flea treated him. When the vet asked I told her what the breeder said, and as he was expensive and it was my first time getting a kitten I trusted them. Vet checked him for fleas with her fingers and said she didn’t see any. I commented that I had found a strange lump on his chest, he was too wiggly for her to feel it and said it’s probably nothing. He has his first vaccine and goes home. He basically does not scratch at all while at home, but I am constantly checking/worried about his chest. 

- last week, I find (very suddenly) the lumpy feeling on his arm, armpit and 4-5 large fleshy lumps on his head, the same as on his chest. I book a same day vet appt. Vet puts a flea comb through him and says he has flea dirt. Gives him flea treatment. He suddenly starts scratching like mad, and in 2 hours causes 5 large welts on his neck. I go back the same evening to get it checked out under advice of my vet, who asks me to come in after closing. they see his neck and decide not to fit a cone, advise I get socks and put them around his neck (fit them), give me some antibacterial wash and say to dilute it & wash once a day. I do. 

It’s been 2 days, he’s eating okay, not as much as he was, the scratching is very apparent on his neck but it’s protects by a sock. He’s been flea treated by the vet, and I’ve been going through his coat with a flea comb and deep cleaning the house. 

I’m just worried about him. My vet hasn’t really given me much direction on what to do, he has another vaccine on the 9th. I am washing his neck once a day, replacing the sock, making sure he’s fed & has enough water. His fur is so thick I can barely see the welts, but if I touch them by accident when im not cleaning them he jumps in pain. I am looking for any signs of serious lethargy, temperature, breathing issues, but I have no idea where to find any of it. he’s becoming a little bit clingy and then suddenly very withdrawn. He’s Grooming more often, not eating as much, sleeping all the time and not really playing or engaging in activities he likes. I’m scared I’m not helping him enough and he is getting worse, not better. 

Please let me know if there’s anything I can do to help him further, or if I should demand a vet see him again. I’m so heartbroken they missed him having fleas, I have done everything in my power to make sure he’s happy and healthy and I feel like I’ve failed him.
