Deepwoken Short Story "As Above, So Below" Preview 2

Fanart

Hello all! I've worked on the story a bit more and it seems like our poor victim has gotten a slight taste of the seawater... here's a quick introduction to the Depths for resident scholar Karliah!

Karliah was drowning.

She gasped for air, but only liquid etherfluid violated her vessel, lungs filled and stretched with seawater that tasted like dirty magic, the Depths ripping her consciousness into a thousand ricocheting shards that exploded across her skull, leaving her mind a splattered mess of fear that carved out gaping fissures in a shell of broken logic. Chains eviscerating her limbs, tightening themselves around twisted joints and tearing her panicked soul out of her corpse. A ravaged spirit, a bubbling ocean, a million possibilities buried under the crushing weight of a thousand seabeds. It takes an anvil only nine days and nine nights to fall to Celtor, her academic mind protested weakly, but then she remembered she was not an anvil. She was Karliah, a pitiful, fragile alchemist who studied too much and lived in obscurity, with nobody to mourn her passing. A tiny failure pulverised into a mangled pulp by the hand of fate.

PS: Hey! If you haven't read the previous post containing another extract of "As Above, So Below", please do read the post below! I would greatly appreciate any constructive criticism provided- I'd love to make this piece a story all Deepwoken players will enjoy.
