Best day trip from Munich: Nuremberg or Neuschwanstein?

Visitor/Tourist Question

Hello Münchners!

I’ll be visiting your city in February. I’ll start in Berlin, then travel through Poland and the Czech Republic, and finally return to Munich. In Munich, I’ll be staying from the 16th to the 20th, which gives me three full days to explore.

I’m planning to do a day trip, but I can’t decide between Neuschwanstein Castle and Nuremberg. Both really appeal to me: I love history and well-preserved old towns, but I’m also drawn to nature and iconic landmarks like Neuschwanstein.

I don’t mind waking up early or getting back late if that means I can fully enjoy the destination and make the most of the day. I also really love beautiful landscapes, especially winter scenery with snow.

For Nuremberg, the train costs around €35 round trip and takes about 1 hour each way. The bus is a bit cheaper, but takes roughly 2 hours per leg. For Füssen (Neuschwanstein), the bus costs about €24 round trip and takes around 2 hours each way.

Given all that, which option would you recommend for a memorable day trip and the best overall experience in one day?
