DREAM-EATING POCHITA THEORY

Even just reading the description of Baku, it makes me believe that this yokai is what Pochita is based on, if not straight up being Baku in CSM universe. This theory explains pretty much every question mark about him.

"Baku watch over humans and act as guardian spirits. They feed on the dreams of humans—specifically bad dreams. Evil spirits and yōkai fear baku and flee from baku-inhabited areas."

★1-Why can Chainsaw Devil erase anything from existence?
When you wake up from a dream, you forget about it almost right away, as if that dream never happened at all. In the same way, when Chainsaw Devil eats a devil, the fear and the very concept behind it disappears along with peoples memories of it.

Pochita eats devils, the physical manifestations of humanity’s common fears, their nightmares, just as Baku eats dreams and leaves people unable to remember the nightmare that once haunted them.

★2-The chainsaw roar in Hell and erased memories
When devils die in Hell, the last thing they remember in their next life is the revving of a chainsaw, which is Chainsaw Devil’s way of wiping away their memories from there.
The word 爆音【バクオン】 means roar of a machine**, and it's first kanji is read as** baku.

★3-Dreams and Food: How Pochita survives
Baku is called a yokai but rather than an evil spirit, he sits closer to gods since its role is corrective and not destructive, that being eating nightmares and relieving people of their fears.

pochita has shown his nightmare eating ability since chapter one. he is the reason why denji does not remember him killing his dad. Denji was having a nightmare, something he desperately wanted to forget, which was just what pochita needed.

denji gave pochita his blood and helped him heal BUT how do we explain how he went on living with someone who had nothing to eat himself? We have never seen pochi eat devils on his weak form, only thing he seemed to eat was what denji could give him, usually just bread. So, what sustained his devil form and powers for years so effortlessly, especially since fiends like Power, clearly needed constant food to maintain her energy and power?

The answer is simple: Pochita survived off of eating denji's nightmares and dreams. Most importantly the dream he keeps having and forgetting: Him killing his dad.
Besides that, there are Denji’s constant dreams of a better life: being with a girl, touching her, hugging her, eating good food, playing games... Since denji did nothing but to daydream/dream about these fantasies all day, pochita had plenty to consume during the time he was denji's pet.

★4-Pochita returning what was eaten: dreams, devils, and memories
He can do that with devils but can he do the same with dreams as well? yes.
Before denji was about to open the door to aki who was taken over by the gun devil, he gets flashbacks of the door from his nightmares.
same thing happens when power is knocking the door and denji is ordered to open it by makima.
Besides all that, he can also communicate with denji through his dreams, making it clear that he has control over his dreams at the very least.

★5-why Denji loses his power when he loses hope?
Pochita IS denji's heart and the only reason he is alive.
when pochita is weak, so is denji.
Denji keeps himself and therefore pochita alive by constantly dreaming; daydreaming of touching boobs, of makima, of reze...
Whenever we think he is down, he thinks of what he wants to do after being done with the fight and pretty much revives himself, which support my theory as well.
(Also the reason denji doesnt remember reze during his fight with makima and her puppets might be that pochita ate those dreams/memories of her.)

★6- Why Chainsaw Devil appears when people call for him?
The chapter where Kobeni drops burgers, chainsaw devil runs to her seemingly out of nowhere. the reason?

"Children suffering from nightmares were told to wake up and repeat the following phrase three times: “Baku-san, come eat my dream. Baku-san, come eat my dream. Baku-san, come eat my dream.” On speaking these words, the Baku was believed to enter the child’s room and devour the bad dream, allowing the child to go back to sleep peacefully."

Kobeni's last words before Chainsaw Devil arrives, is "save me", so he does.

Another thing is the scene from the latest chapter:
Yoru, after seeing the suffering she has caused, tears up and says: "this world, its... its a dream come true!"
In the panel right next to this one, we see a woman call for Chainsaw Man. "Chainsaw Man... save us." so he appears behind her right away, just like before.

Whoever is in need of escaping from their nightmares, when they call for Chainsaw Man, he comes right away.

★Final thoughts★
I am sure you guys can find plenty of other parallels between Baku and Pochita. I didn't want to write everything i noticed down here as to not make this any longer but to me, it's clear this yokai is who Fujimoto got his inspiration from.

This theory seems to fit like a glove. Pochita being a holy entity who will keep living as long as people dream and hope.
