Opposition in India (Left) is cannobolising itself .

Over the last three decades, advances in communication and development have significantly boosted the confidence of Indians. People increasingly see themselves as equals to citizens of other nations.

However, the Left in the country seems out of step with this shift, or unsure of how to engage with it. Their cynicism even when warranted, often comes across as an inability to shed an old inferiority complex, at times bordering on being perceived as anti-Indian.

They need to understand that shaming citizens for being confident and ambeing proud of history will never work; it only pushes people further away from them and from power. It is time for the opposition to learn how to offer hope and positive energy.

If they fail to do so, the national balance risks tipping toward the opposite extreme and the issues that come up with it.
