Boyfriend (36M) used to be very thoughtful early on, now it’s stopped completely and I’m confused (25F, long distance)

I’m a 25F and my boyfriend is 36M. We’re long distance.

At the beginning of our relationship, he was extremely thoughtful. He would send me roses, even sent flowers to my mother once when we were first getting closer. He would randomly order me small, thoughtful gifts from Amazon on his own. If I casually mentioned something like “I need a new phone charger,” he’d just order it for me without me asking. I always expressed a lot of gratitude and thanked him every time.

About two months in, he got me roses for my birthday. His birthday is two weeks after mine, and I made sure to match the effort: I sent him roses, a cake, and helium balloons.

As we started getting out of the honeymoon phase, all of that stopped. Completely. I haven’t received anything thoughtful since my birthday. Not even on Christmas. What makes it more confusing is that early on he talked a lot about wanting to “take care of me.” He’s older and very traditional in that sense, so it felt aligned with his values, not like love bombing or something transactional.

Our relationship is still good otherwise. We talk constantly, communicate daily, and he talks seriously about marrying me and having children together. That’s why this shift is throwing me off so much.

I also notice that now, if I casually mention something I need (not hinting, just normal conversation), he stays quiet. Before, he’d immediately take action. Now there’s nothing.

I feel guilty even admitting this, but part of what’s hurting me is comparison. I know this is unhealthy, but his ex was a well-known actress/celebrity in our country. She has a lot of Instagram posts, and I noticed that she regularly received flowers from him throughout their relationship. Seeing that makes me feel like he put in more effort with her than he does with me. I hate that I think this way, but it keeps coming up and it hurts.

On my side, I still do a lot of “cute” and thoughtful things for him. I draw for him, make art for him, give him a lot of attention, and honestly try to do whatever makes him happy. Lately, I’ve gone quiet about my needs just to see how long he’ll go without doing anything thoughtful for me. So far, it’s been a long time.

What confuses me the most is this: if he talks about marrying me and building a life with me, why wouldn’t he treat me at least as well as his exes—especially the ones he claims were horrible and only using him?

Am I overreacting? Is this just the honeymoon phase ending, or is this a red flag? I don’t want to sound materialistic because it’s not about the gifts themselves. It’s about feeling thought of, remembered, and valued—especially in a long-distance relationship where gestures matter more.

I’d really appreciate outside perspectives because I’m stuck between feeling ungrateful and feeling genuinely hurt and confused.
