My cat is at risk for Parvo

Less than a year ago my 4 year old princess BB passed away in a week due to dry FIP. We hadn’t known about it before, Reddit opened our eyes to it and diagnosed her. She passed away in a week after a harrowing battle of so many vets not knowing about FIP and finding one far too late. That was the worst thing to ever happen to us. We will forever be grieving her. We were not ready at heart to get any more animals, but eventually my husband and I found two kittens that needed a home and we took them in. Sunny and Luna.

Out of nowhere Sunny declined in a day with no prior signs and when we rushed him to the vet, we were told it was Parvo. Once more, this caught us off guard. It was happening all over again. I don’t know why but there just isn’t awareness in my country. Everyone I know owns a cat or dog and I also have two family cats that live in another home and they’re all healthy.

These two kitties had both their core vaccines (we were told it was more than enough). Sunny stayed in full supportive care for 38 hours at the private clinic before he eventually passed. He was just eight months old. Now I’m terrified for Luna and I don’t know what to do. We disinfected our home with bleach and a steam cleaner.

They were inseparable and spent every second together. I don’t know how she could have avoided the virus. We took her in for 3 Zylexis shots, she’s taking Lysine 100 twice a day, and will have 2 more core vaccines given to her in three weeks time. (Why wasn’t that offered to them before?)

I can’t believe both my beloveds have died so quickly from two evil and unrelenting sicknesses. We are still grieving our first baby, and now our toasty little boy is gone. I’m paranoid our area is especially ridden with viruses as we have so many stray cats here. All our babies have never stepped a foot outside and yet this nightmare is repeating. We will be moving in a few months due to this.

I just want to know - does she have a chance of not contracting it? Is there hope for her? Sunny was perfectly fine the night before and he just disappeared from our lives and left an even bigger void now. At least he’s with BB girl. If anyone can navigate us- is there anything more we can do? So far she’s doing great and is healthy, but I can’t rest at all.
